The Manor Garden in Peine
At the Peiner Schlossberg , immediately north of the market place, was the overgrown Amtmann- Ziegler- Garten until the year 1998 situated. It was thought, that relicts from the former Peiner castle were under the soil.
Many legends are entwined around the fortified castle as one didn't know a lot about the building. It had been reconstructed numerous times and was pulled finally in 1816.
It is not known when the Peine castle was founded or built. It was first recorded in the year 1130.
Beginning of the 13th-century, Gunzelin von Wolfenbüttel took over Peine manor. He founded next to the castle an urban settlement in the year 1223. Today's Peine developed from there.
